Quick example: when I’m stuck with EU 39-only samples, I have the factory label the box with outsole length and heel-to-ball in mm and include an extra 2 mm sockliner; that lets me simulate a snug 38.5 during showroom try-ons and keeps costs down versus ordering another pair. I get why 39 is the press-friendly size, but lengths vary by maker, so @Guide I always add those mm callouts to the tech pack as a safeguard.
Quick workaround I use when 39 is the only sample: I ship the tech pack with a spare insole board trimmed -3 mm and a 2 mm heel lift, so in the fit review we swap them to mimic 38 or 40 and catch vamp bite/heel slip without extra rounds — last weeks “sustainable critical path” note nailed why this trims waste. @Ana this shaved a prototype and about a week off approvals.
Instead of trimming boards, I ask the factory to pack two extra sockliners (2mm/4mm) plus a 1mm forepart shim so we can stack/swap in review to mimic a downsize; @dwayne_j54 it gets close without risking outsole bond, but watch the flex point creep — can your supplier include those in dev kits?
